Bugjinka Surf!

My  first game! A very short auto-scroller for the gameboy color where you dodge obstacles and gain points by riding  waves. Watch out for seagulls!

It takes roughly 10 minutes to complete.

CONTROLS + How to Play

(keyboard)

Z :     A button. Use to select menu options, advance dialogue. Hold while airborne to do a backflip.

Enter :     Start button. Press this during a stage to pause it, or to save the game while in the stage select screen.

Arrowkeys: d-pad. Use to move up and down to avoid stuff, or change your stage selection.

Note: If capslock is on, then it might not work.

Touch waves to ride them. Touch ramps to launch into the air. Avoid octopi, seagulls, and jumping fish. Reach the end of the stage without getting hit three times!

Known Issues/Bugs
  1. Game slows down!
    1. If there are too many actors on the screen that are moving, then the game slows down. I think this is unavoidable due to the Gameboy limitations.
  2. Water is broken on Gameboy!
    1. I'm doing background pallet swapping in order to "animate" the water. This means the game only works on a Gameboy color, even knowing everything is the same exact color pallet.
  3. Visual Glitch when ending backflip/wave ride
    1. Sorry, I don't know how to fix this. It wasn't an issue at first, at some point while getting the waves to work. I have a general idea on what's causing it. but I don't know hot to fix it.
  4. Sprites flashing in right at the start of the stage
    1. The actors used in the stage are set to deactivate themselves right at the start of the stage. This worked, and you would not see them at the start of a stage. Then during the development they decided to briefly show themselves instead of being hidden right away. I'm sorry, I don't know how to fix this.
